Asbestos Update

October 2023

Parents, Guardians, Faculty, & Staff,

In 1986, Congress passed the Asbestos Hazard Response Act (AHERA). The law requires all
schools with any grade levels between kindergarten and 12 th  grade to be inspected
for asbestos-containing building materials. The law further requires the development of a
Management Plan that is based on the findings of the inspection. The Management Plan
outlines our intent in controlling the potential for exposure to asbestos fibers in our school
buildings. In the past, asbestos was used extensively in building materials because of its
insulating and fire retarding capabilities. Virtually any building built before the late 1970’s
contains at least some asbestos in pipe insulation and structural fireproofing. The inspection of
our school is complete, and no asbestos was found.

Our Management Plan is in its final form of submission to the Governor’s office. It outlines in
detail the methods we will use to maintain the materials in a safe manner. A copy of our
Management Plan is on file for your review in each campus office.

Blessings~
Sandy
