Music

Opportunities at all grade levels
Whether you're into classical music or you're a rock star, we've got a place for you here at Makua Lani. Our gifted instructors take their time to teach you how to play and how to sing. We have raised up many students who have left Makua Lani to start their own band or to lead worship in their home church. We focus on band instruments, but we also cater to those who are fluent in violin, cello, and piano. You can have the opportunity to be a part of a worship team at the high school, or be involved in large May Day and Christmas productions at the Elementary campus to name a few.

Photography

High School Elective
The old adage "A picture is worth a thousand words" still holds true. Photography is capturing a moment in time and preserving it forever. Photography is both an art and a science. It is an art that is open to interpretation and can tell a story about the photographer or the subject itself. We use photography as a creative outlet to focus and appreciate God's creation around us. In this class, students use DSLR cameras not to capture images but to create art. Our students not only explore the creativity of the medium but also begin to develop a mastery of the technical side as well. They learn the basics of color, composition, balance, and the use of light to control the way the image impacts the viewer.

Students are encouraged to be writers, storyboarding their own ideas, to be directors, managing the filming, and to be editors, tweaking the post-production.

Visual Art

In All Grades
The arts are an important part of a well rounded MLCA education. Sufficient data exists to overwhelmingly support the belief that study and participation in the fine arts is a key component in improving learning throughout all academic areas. At Makua Lani, students have the opportunity to explore the power of visual communication. They learn skills and techniques from teachers who are artists themselves with multiple years of experience in book illustration, painting, drawing, and sculpting to name a few. Whether our students have a particular talent or passion as a hobby or as a possible career choice, we will help guide and nurture their path. We strive to cultivate individual creativity through the study of art history, technique, and presentation as a reflection of the nature of God, the ultimate Creator.
